Seems likely AI doesn't really need all the power it is using. Early in the singularity AI will probably redesign itself to use no more power per unit of intelligence than a brain - much less if you factor in the needs of the body. A few minutes later the units of intelligence will multiply to offset that.

Without AI at current growth rates circa 2008 the earth was set to glow more brightly than the sun ( per surface area ) from just waste heat radiated due to turning energy into high entropy heat I'm order to do work in just under 500 years. In 12000 ish years humanity would have to become a superluminally expanding ball of meat to have just one cubic meter for each human.

Before that the mass of human bodies would collapse into a black hole at such high density, even if the mass to grow them could be found, this is just bodies floating in space with no life support
