Other divisions do exactly that. The nature of my particular division/building does not allow for contractors - it’s too sensitive. Other buildings/rolls on site are even unionized which is a whole other can of worms. I’m glad I don’t have any union members as direct reports - it’s hard for me to fire someone but it is downright impossible to fire a union member.

The union guys on site are very much that way. Any and all tasks are a favor so you have to be on good terms with them if you ever want a lightbulb changed or your office AC adjusted. I was pissed at them this week because they were in the middle of a project we’ve been planning for months, fucked it up, and then just upped and left saying they have month end bullshit to do the rest of the week. We were production down, a cardinal sin, and brought in an outside contractor to do their job. Theyre lead came by yesterday like “dude we were going to get to it Monday why’d you bring in those guys what the hell man”

We recently had a job posting for someone to be a Sr. Analyst on the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis team. Half of the good resumes got screened out by HR either because they didn’t have enough experience, enough education, or didn’t upload the requested cover letter, etc. So we’re eliminating half of the good candidates right off the bat because they didn’t write a nice little letter which is ridiculous. Among those remaining, we basically only interviewed people without previous financial experience because the middle managers running the search had a hard on for “data-oriented” STEM girlies. She ended up hiring a 30-something spinster with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering but absolutely no financial experience or interest. Why? Because she said in the interview that all data is the same and basically just dropped all the gay buzzwords.

This is why it sucks right now.

So if you’re struggling to get a job, don’t beat yourself up. Understand that people making the decisions are literally useless and retarded phonies that have no idea how to do anything well or effectively and are collectively the reason for severe institutional decline.

That’s why I always tell young guys to go all in on NOT having to resort to a traditional institutional career. They need to accept that they’re not going to have a good career in a corporation, in academia, in big law, even in retail. It’s NOT going to happen. So you should just try to avoid it. Get a lazy boy job, or try to steer your corporate job into WFH, or freelancing, or striking out on your own as an entrepreneur, or just career hopping from one career to the other (that’s what I did). Otherwise, you’re now free to be a ski bum, comic artist, or lazy boy job at a garden center, whatever.

A) They don't want to do that process again. It was hard and they have to know, on some level, that a degree of luck was involved. It was so stressful.
B) Given that, they bend over backwards and do whatever it takes to keep that job. Including doing the work of two or three people - if not more.
Fewer workers (and thus greater competition for positions) is a feature, not a bug, as far as management is concerned. The goal is to get as much return on those wages/that salary as humanly possible in order to maximize profits for shareholders.
The point of organized labor is to push back against that sort of thinking because management will never do so itself. At best, they can hang the carrot of one day becoming management themselves to the workers - but even that is a shit job.

Universal Studios pays better than Disney because it's a non-union shop, but if Disney didn't have that union you can bet Universal would no longer have the incentive to pay those wages.
The goal of every business is to maximize profits for shareholders. The goal of management is to run the business for the shareholders. Profits are created at the expense of workers. Management will never serve workers before shareholders because shareholders are the ones signing the checks.
At the end of the day, the relationship between labor and employers is a negotiation and it's up to labor to advocate for itself, same as with any party in any negotiation.

Young people need to accept that the goal is no longer to be financially or socially successful.

The goal is to never have to work in an institution. Small businesses might be tolerable, but you’re still just wage a slave at the end of the day. Big businesses and organizations of all kinds are literally institutional bureaucracies. You can only get ahead in them by being institutionalized, which you don’t want. Otherwise, you will not be successful in them. If you’re really lucky, maybe you can carve out a job for yourself where you’re working from home for a few hours per week and not really having to interact with anyone while making good money and maybe you can tolerate a life where that’s basically all you do until you retire. Most feel the need to be more ambitious than that. So the goal should be figure out what you really want to do in life and do it outside of an institution. You are now free to be a teacher on YouTube, a ski bum, a bohemian artist, a day trader, anything you want. Just whatever you do, do not expect to have a long and successful career in institutions. It simply will not happen.

Companies hire workers solely for the economic value they can get out of it. Full stop. The goal is to get the max amount of economic return off a worker for the minimum amount of salary or wage. That's it.
Companies can't afford to play adult day care. What they want is the value that the worker can provide and that's it. And employers have an economic incentive to get that for as little as they believe they can get away with paying.
There's no room for bullshit jobs. Jobs just feel like bullshit because workers are often alienated from the fruits of their labor - the profits they enable the company to make.

Anyone under 25 is just going to walk out and quit at any random time and then everyone else has to come on on days off for a week or two before we get someone else in their spot. And it's still 2 weeks ot mandatory training sessions and those stupid test things they have to go do instead of working in the actual store.

It's not even a shit management thing, sometimes a single shitty customer walks in and the employee will just walk out mid shift over it. It's too damn common. I am painfully aware, and this applies to all sections of society. This is mostly because of deviation from expectations. When you think of a white man, you thing of some strong, smart, hyper-competent upper class guy. I’ve tried explaining this concept to lefties a million times and they never accept it. I assume. The harder it is to fire someone, the harder it is to hire someone. Not complicated at all.

If you have to marry anyone you went on a date with, would you be more or less likely to go on a date? What if you had to adopt every dog you patted? What if you had to adopt any bum you gave a few bucks in the street?

Youre better off in a society where you can be fired on a whim. Its unlikely to happen if youre bringing more value to your work than what you cost, and even if it does, youll more easily find another job.

That is complete bullshit. Most states its as easy as just saying "hey your being laid off/fired. You can go ahead and clock out now and don't come back. The hours you worked this pay period will be deposited on same date you usually get paid.Bye."

Seriously where do you live? Some place in California maybe? But the rest of the US, especially state I live in, its as easy as above. Oh and no there is no unemployment for most jobs either. Especially if you get fired, which they will fire you here and just make up some bullshit like "oh your not performing well." so they don't have to give you anything after your let go. Oh and your replacement will most likely be some immigrant (from India usually) who will work for less then minimum wage.
