The reason it's difficult to get hired is because hiring managers intentionally make it hard as a form of worker retention.
You put candidates into heavy competition and make the process and stressful as possible. Make the candidates jump through as many loops as possible. That way they bend over backwards to keep their job, including taking pay cuts and accepting hours and tasks that were never initially agreed to.
Most work is at will, it's already easy to fire people's asses. Go work your fucking con somewhere else.

Half of the good resumes got screened out by HR either because they didn’t have enough experience, enough education, or didn’t upload the requested cover letter, etc. So we’re eliminating half of the good candidates right off the bat because they didn’t write a nice little letter which is ridiculous. Among those remaining, we basically only interviewed people without previous financial experience because the middle managers running the search had a hard on for “data-oriented” STEM girlies. She ended up hiring a 30-something spinster with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering but absolutely no financial experience or interest. Why? Because she said in the interview that all data is the same and basically just dropped all the gay buzzwords.
This is why it sucks right now.
So if you’re struggling to get a job, don’t beat yourself up. Understand that people making the decisions are literally useless and retarded phonies that have no idea how to do anything well or effectively and are collectively the reason for severe institutional decline.
That’s why I always tell young guys to go all in on NOT having to resort to a traditional institutional career. They need to accept that they’re not going to have a good career in a corporation, in academia, in big law, even in retail. It’s NOT going to happen. So you should just try to avoid it. Get a lazy boy job, or try to steer your corporate job into WFH, or freelancing, or striking out on your own as an entrepreneur, or just career hopping from one career to the other (that’s what I did). Otherwise, you’re now free to be a ski bum, comic artist, or lazy boy job at a garden center, whatever.

B) Given that, they bend over backwards and do whatever it takes to keep that job. Including doing the work of two or three people - if not more.
Fewer workers (and thus greater competition for positions) is a feature, not a bug, as far as management is concerned. The goal is to get as much return on those wages/that salary as humanly possible in order to maximize profits for shareholders.
The point of organized labor is to push back against that sort of thinking because management will never do so itself. At best, they can hang the carrot of one day becoming management themselves to the workers - but even that is a shit job.

Companies hire workers solely for the economic value they can get out of it. Full stop. The goal is to get the max amount of economic return off a worker for the minimum amount of salary or wage. That's it.
