When I was in high school my largest tip was 3 times the order of two large pizzas and some beers (tip was equivalent to around 300 RON in today's money, maybe more).
I didn't tip the server that much because he was underpaid, but because was a good kid who was working while going to high school.
At first he couldn't believe it, then he refused and after I insisted a lot he accepted the money. He later made it to free college and I hope he has a good comfy life today.
No customer should be forced to tip because the employee is underpaid but as long as you have money and know you are served by a good person, you should tip as much as you can.

If I ever open a restaurant there will be a sign with big lettering inside the restaurant that says "Get with the program or get out of here." The reason wait staff and cooks are overstressed is from the "The customer is always right" attitude and dealing with Karens and unreasonable people constantly. If there were no difficult customers stressing out the workers, then the service would be better, and a tip would not feel like a pittance given under duress.

And if the restaurant was good there would be people waiting to get in and difficult people could be shamed and mocked on their way out the door.
