How come anime protagonists are often chill, optimistic, individualistic and kinda goofy, but you rarely see any real life Japanese person who shares those qualities instead of being uptight and drone minded with thinly veiled insecurities.

Because that's what they wanted to be. They dream of freedom. At the very top, the "drone mastermind" kind of keeps repeating that they deserve to suffer for losing world war two. So they dream. They dream of silly adventures and freedom and fun. Then they remember what they as a collective bloodline have done. Why the concrete jungle they have created reflects the wall they built around their heart exists. It's really depressing Anon.
