There's different waves of hiring in IT jobs. If you are very lucky some recruiter thinks you are quirky and special and will and can invite you as some kind of "joker pick".
This is the case with this guy.
Normally you have different rounds of technical interviews (and the later ones are in person). This wasn't the case for this guy (doesn't mean he couldn't have passed the rounds though).
X/Tesla etc. used to have a lot of people leaving the company during the transition. That's when this guy got in.
