it was much more like a dream in the distant, distant past. maybe even time didn't quite work so harshly, linearly
so gods and interactions with gods were not just common but seemingly very essential to existence
now almost nobody but christians or the occasional pagan larper gives much of a shit
might also explain why big heavy rocks were seemingly easier to move thousands of years ago - maybe existence literally didn't have the same mass it has now. maybe the pyramid blocks were more like styrofoam to whoever built them
so maybe "the gods" weren't concealed from the average person, and people were deriving intelligence and understanding from the spiritual realms directly - the veil was a lot thinner. the divide between the living and the dead was nothing like it is now.
anyway now we are a materialistic godless bunch trapped in matter and everything sucks
