Most friendships in life are circumstantial. You're friends because you work together, go to school together, etc. When you go your separate ways in life, those relationships tend to whither and die. It's usually not anything personal, you're just not in each other's lives anymore and neither person has the will to keep the friendship alive.

If you're lucky, you have a couple of lifelong friends who stick around no matter what. Those are rare friendships indeed.

I haven't really ghosted them they just got married or found more useful friends and moved on. I see them every now and then at church but I'm no better off than I was 10 years ago so I feel as though reconnecting with them would just bring them down

I moved to a city they all visit frequently and none of them ever bothered to visit. basically texted once a week but at some point realized it was a back and forth of "how's work" "good, how about yours" without any substance. i was also the one initiating the whole time and i think by week 4 i got the hint on how silly it is and just stopped communicating.

I come from a low income spic town in SoCal. I went straight to college after high school and always stayed away from drugs/alcohol and became successful. I don't think many of my old friends followed suit and probably are all stuck there living with their parents and probably knocking up a local goblina. I actually ran into an old childhood friend at a party recently and all he has done with his life is working in fast food. He was well-off and came from a nice household like me so it was kind of disheartening to see. This place drags down young people and keeps them eternally in an orbit of mediocrity (a lax culture surrounding drugs and alcohol doesn't help either)

The time for friends and carefree, goofy times was back in middle school.

I don't need a social life. I like drifting away. The laughs from the past are enough for me.

I plan on doing this if I ever actually get an inheritance. The problem is you can move somewhere completely new and "start over," but you still bring yourself and your habits with you. I guess I'm speaking from the perspective of perhaps I was in the wrong and burned bridges, which I probably did. Regardless, I think a lot of people need to be real with themselves, drop the bullshit and self-reflect on whether or not they are the common denominator in their failed friendships, or even relationships with family.
