I looked into my insurance and the max I can pay in 1 year is 5k. That’s if I have a catastrophic injury. On top of that I would say the US has the best healthcare in the world. Not on price, it’s completely corrupt, but on actual healthcare. There’s no waiting for me, I can get a major surgery in a few weeks.
Insurance is beyond fucked here with everything they do but as long as you work you are fine. My job actually supplies a prepaid card that gets $50 a week added to it to cover any medical expenses ranging from sunscreen to doctors. I don’t like going to the doctors but I’m not actually worried about it. This extends to my wife and children. Pretty much everything the government does they do poorly and I can’t imagine they would knock universal healthcare out the park.
