If you apply dimensionality reduction to a DNA dataset you can pick two dimensions that produce a black/white axis and an Asian/white axis, and of course a hapa kid will be further along the Asian axis than their white parents and not far as their Asian parent. The white parent will be closer to other white people than to their hapa child on that axis, but it doesn't mean they're more closely related, you're just not seeing the thousands of other possible dimensions (along which axes the parent and child will mostly be much closer) because the person who made the chart picked those two.
