southwest Iran is arab (shia), east iraq is arab (shia). Iran had a shia revolution in 1979, Iraq was worried it would spread to Iraq. all of the oil is in the Shia region. Iraq invaded Iran to get their oil so they couldn't use it and would collapse. he failed but the war exhausted them both. he then invaded Kuwait to take their oil but failed. he then bombed Israel and got invaded and replaced with Shia democracy.

it wasn't pointless, if Iraq had won it would be the one of the most powerful Arab countries, even the world. he would have Iran's oil, Kuwait's oil and would have most likely taken Saudi Arabia and Mecca afterwards. he would have been like Arab Stalin. he just failed, that's all.
