I'm doing 77 on the highway in the right lane. I come up to someone slower. I get in the left lane and speed up to 90, even 100 so I can pass them quickly and get into the right lane again. If there are lots of cars then I push it harder so as to get out of the left lane as soon as possible.
The people that should suffer the most are those that keep it on cruise control going 0.09% faster than the traffic to the right. Why is it in the country of ours that so many don't have the common courtesy to get the fuck out of the fast lane as soon as humanely possible. One should never cruise on that lane. I can't go on a road trip without feeling intense seething and hate the whole way. I suppose the only solution is to set the cruise at 60mph and drive in the right lane and just forget about the world around you. The arrogance of the American driver. Made worse by goddamn huge trucks that have never had a bag of soil loaded in the back.
Another thing, about ever car today has 200hp. These fucking things people drive can haul some ass. Why the fuck are people accelerating from a red light as if they are carrying eggs? Push the fucking accelerator you morons!!!!

I drove a friend new 2025 Subaru Outback, the higher trim level. I drive old junkers so the driver assist features are new to me, although I've heard of them, never used them.
The cruise control slows down and even stops as needed, and resumes driving and pre-set speed as conditions allow. And lane assist allows the car to stay in the lane. It's just amazing.
Anyway, how nice it will be to be on the highway going 95mph on self drive mode connected to the network. Just like those Chinese drone displays with thousands of drones making images of dragons and things in the night sky, all cars will know their place. With such a network cars can travel much faster. Imagine a 100mph trip. Recently I did a 500 mile trip that took 9 hours. Imagine doing that in 5. More of a problem holding your piss that long. How much easier if you could watch some TV or take a nap as you're traveling. I would say that would beat commercial air travel.
Instead of being in an airborne prison and getting sexually groped by ZOG goons, you take the longer drive but get to sleep. My solution would be to require large trucks to drive in one lane, and one lane only. Too many times I've been in traffic is because a semi truck wants to be in the fast lane, is locked side by side with someone slow in the lane next to them making it impossible to pass.

It's a hard solution because we need them so we can't just pull their license, but I would impose heavy fines on any truck caught outside the designated lane and ensure it is strictly enforced

I barely control my car on the highway already. I get up to speed, set cruise and lane control, then just kill time until my exit comes up. It's only on surface streets etc that independent thought plays an important role in navigation.

You bring up a great point though. Mandatory self-drive on highways would enable significantly higher speeds to be safe. That would honestly be so badass, 100-120mph cruising speeds cutting your commute time in half or more.

Simple. Instead of continuing to follow the car in front of you closely, you allow a large gap to form in front of you. This creates a relief valve of sorts for cars in adjoining lanes. As they change into your lane, it creates space and causes movement in other lanes. Continue to do this until gridlock is broken.
