The parents I was born to got married in a church where all it took for the pastors and congregation to believe a couple of people would be good parents and should get married is if they could speak in tongues, say they have strong faith in the Word and say they have strong love for God. Turns out people need to develop actual virtues and wisdom before they can call themselves proper Christians or proper parents so they don't take on serious pursuits and responsibilities without a disaster happening as a consequence of immaturity and incompetence. I've had similar experiences, Anon. I tried to explain to my pastor once how fucked up my Christian parents often were towards me and how rough my childhood was, and he immediately surmised they must not have been in the Word yet.
