When I was 18-20 I obsessively watched the property market in my area and came to the conclusion I would never own my own home. That was devastating to me and I gave up and fucked around doing nothing productive for 10 years. When I turned 30 I decided I would give it another shot and now age 32 I'm comfortably under the affordability rating (less than 30% of base wage goes to housing) in my own two bedroom unit which I have completely renovated. I should have just moved towns instead I legitimately burned 5 years of my life being a NEET.
