We are worse in terms of wages in comparison to house prices, but I've lived and worked in Germany before (I'll be back again in 3 weeks) and the wages there are absolutely abysmal unless you're in certain white collar professions - and even then you'd make close to double what you would make in Germany in Australia or in the US after paying German health insurances, taxes, retirement contributions etc.
