Need to be able to continually profit off the consumer. Having things people can own for decades and possibly have an easy avenue to self repair those objects don't net corpos enough money. So they have to push products that will break down with proprietary pieces and have some sort of computer implanted into it to contact a server so they can squeeze out a subscription from you and shut off your service as punishment.

As always, corpos need to be purged, along with those in government that help protect their anti-consumer practices along with the banks that collude with them.
