Mars colonization is an inevitability, I think everyone should think about it at least once, since your offspring will live in colonies there.
Some questions:
-How do you think the land will be divided?
-Who will make the rules, laws, and whatnot?
-How will Americans feel if the Chinese get there first and choose the best spots to colonize?

At first the US or China will claim it, but after hundreds/thousands of years it will slowly transition to independency

The thing with mars is they really need earth supplies for the first hundreds or even thousands of years.

Mars will be independent as it should be. I think different races and groups should all be given their own planets to colonize. For instance the Portuguese planet and the Indonesian planet. In the case of Mars it will probably be divided up closer to traditional countries on Earth though.
