>>509155580This, but more. Trump is trying to restructure and re-industrialize the US, and doing it from a position of economic weakness both in the US and globally. He has to do this and remain politically popular to sustain his changes for the longer term. He cannot afford a deep recession. He needs the fiscal taps wide open. Plus having the USD weaker helps exports and hurts imports, which is overall in his favor.
The BBB is pure Trumpian logic, and it is not small (or big) govt republican. We are witnessing something for the ages.

Nothing else. Elon doesnt give a fuck about waste, because all his companies are a part of the same machine that wastes tax dollars for bullshit all over, and hes just the face on that entire operation.
Hes a retarded technocrat autist from South Africa. You legit thought he was running SpaceX, Tesla and Paypal at the same time? LOL.. Lets get real.
>>509154585 (OP)Elon is right about this one though, what the bill does is cut taxes for the rich and increase taxes on the general public through inflation caused by printing $5 trillion. YOUR savings account is paying this tax because the currency you hold is being devalued, in order to save the top 1% billions in taxes. Every time the state prints money, especially in this magnitude, to pay for its own operation, that is money coming DIRECTLY out of your pocket via inflation.
>>509156560I don't like the current system. I think it is possible to industrialize within it. China is able to do it with whatever passes for its currency and central bank and we were well industrialized until profit motives and shit laws made businesses motivated to shift production overseas.

I think in part his Mars thing is to be a reboot in governance as much as an expedition (which is reasonable in so far as it will be so harsh). In terms of politics here, I don't think he really gets it because he leans toward being a technologist. I think he sees the grift and the stupidity and thinks, "just don't do that", but it is the end result of human nature intermixed with the 'state of the art' governance system that the founding fathers implemented here.
I think that humanity is pushing against the boundaries of our social technologies as implemented in law, corporations and governments. This is why we have these management failures (like Boeing and intel) and cycles of civilizations. Scaling down and experimenting locally might be the only sane path forward. Let systems compete, learn, and adapt — rather than impose top-down fixes that usually miss the mark.

Getting more people involved with production and creation of tech has meant greater capacity of those economic and political units to do violence on others (power) as exercised in final form by the post WWII imperial might of the west lead by the US. That is the crumbling order being rebuilt (or attempted so) by Trump/maga.
Scaling down is inherently less powerful, unless those units can be bound together into something greater - which to my mind is the core ideas of the US that have been weakened.
Again, my point is that the drive to scale up is ever present with current tech, because that gives power. The drive has been to create social, political, economic, and legal systems that allow for scaling up to realize that power.
The super interesting question is will AI/AGI/ASI dissolve that fundamental drive that has existed for humanity since farming was invented and people started to build 'civilizations' for empowerment.
It is going to be super interesting going forward.

>>509169597>is done through unsustainable massive goverment gibsThat's not reality either. Tariffs alone keep the fabs here - and are all that is necessary to motivate TSMC to build them. Biden was being dumb with the chips act (but in fairness probably did speed up the move/construction). TSMC will have to build leading edge nodes here or apple will have to spend 30% tariffs on the chips. As long as the US govt does not pussy out leading edge nodes will always be here. >>509169936I disagree. Tariffs are enough. If you motivate companies in the right way, they will respond. >>509167145Brilliantly put — you’re absolutely right that scaling up has always been tied to power projection, whether economic, political, or military. The U.S. post-WWII order is the ultimate example of that: industrial capacity, financial dominance, and a military umbrella all intertwined.
And I agree that the MAGA/trump phenomenon — love it or hate it — is partly a reaction to the crumbling of that system and a desire to either preserve it or reshape it in new ways.
I’m fascinated too by your question about AI/AGI/ASI. If those tools can decentralize capability and decision-making, maybe the historical incentive to scale up for power changes fundamentally. Imagine individuals or small groups wielding the kind of analytical or productive power that once required nations or empires.
But that could also swing the other way — a few actors using advanced AI to consolidate control even more tightly. So the old tension remains: power in many hands vs. power concentrated in a few.
Could be the most important question of our era.
>>509170172>Tariffs are enoughNot enough.
The cost of building fabs in the US as oppose to east Asia and along with the additional logistical burden will more than offset any price hikes brought about by tarrifs.
Keep in mind, TSMC sources a lot of its various machinery from abroad (most notably it's lithography machines), such items would still have to be imported into the US in order to get the factories started and once the chips are made, they can than be shipped to foxcon for assembly, it's utterly inefficient, so TSMC won't do it without gibs.
>>509170135>America just does not have the eco system and the decades of experience needed to sustain it.This is wrong too. Intel is arguably ahead of tsmc with its 18A, driven by BSPD (backside power delivery). Intel isn't being trusted by others to be a foundry though, which is a problem - they have to fill their fabs to amortize their massive investments. Yes TSMC has done a lot right, and a lot of the ecosystem is there, but it is because the US allowed it to happen, and that can and is being fixed - again by governments not run by shitheads.
But the name on the company does not really matter to the US govt. They want the fabs, and the packaging here, and the R&D here. TSMC has been motivated to start building all of that in AZ, and driven to do so by tariffs.
Besides, I don't think you get it. The US has a shitload of fabs. We make a lot of chips, it is only with intel shitting the bed on 10nm that the lead was lost (?temporarily?) to TSMC.

>>509170558you are just wrong. The #'s have been crunched for TSMC's recent fabs. The US is about 10% more expensive than Taiwan for chip production. Tariffs at 30% means that production happens here. Its just the way it is.

Like does nobody remember that token washing machine shit? Or that shit that happened with Foxconn? They'd ghost when investments for factories need years to pay off expecting who is in power next to reel it back. Not even Trump wants to rip off the bandage too hard which is why he keeps flipflopping between deporting everyone "illegal = illegal" or not wanting to hurt the hotel workers/farmers that fuck up wages/rents just by being around
>>509170572> Intel is arguably ahead of tsmc with its 18A, driven by BSPD (backside power delivery)I don't care about the latest buzzwords, all that matters is results and Intel continues to be so shit at large scale chip production, so much so that apple refuses to have them anywhere near their chip in spite of coming under MASSIVE pressure from the goverment to move away from TSMC and China.
>but it is because the US allowed it to happen,Correct, the same system that allowed this to happen is still in place.
I have been hearing about America's ceasing it's dependence on TSMC's Taiwan fabs and the Chinese electronic factories for YEARS now, fuck all happened.

>Care so much about the debt
>refuse to ever raise taxes, go to bat to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires
I don't get these people complaining about the debt. They constantly whine and cry about how in debt the US is, yet they refuse to ever do anything about it. They say whoa, we can save hundreds of billions by cutting healthcare, but they will never say hmmm. maybe we shouldn't send billions to Israel, or spent ONE TRILLION DOLLARS on the military every year, or god forbid raise tax rates on millionaires and billionaires.
Speaking of which, did you know that there is a taxable maximum on how much money a person can pay into social security each year? It's about 21k for individuals, 10k for employees. The taxable maximum is 176k. This means every dollar you get taxed on above that threshold does not contribute to social security, and by the way social security does not contribute to the national debt at all.
Yeah, look this up if you don't believe me. Someone earning billions of dollars a year is paying THE SAME AMOUNT into social security as someone at the maximum income cap for it; 176k. For years the solution to saving social security has been right in front of these idiots in congress, simply raise the taxable maximum so that millionaires and billionaires have to pay more into social security for the benefit of all, but they refuse to do it which is why you always hear people talk about social security payments being cut by x date because the funding will run out as almost all boomers go onto social security and it strains the system.
Kind of a tangent, I'm just tired of these people crying about the debt and then cutting taxes at the same time, it means they really don't actually give a fuck about it and just use it as an excuse to give themselves and their millionaire / billionaire friends a tax cut so they can buy more superyachts and go on vacations in europe.

>>509170701Everything will be bots and AI soon. When AI perfects photos and videos, wars will start. Movies, music, this chatboard, social media will be FLOODED with bots, you wont know whats what.
AI mode: We’re rapidly heading into an era where AI and autonomous bots will permeate every facet of digital life. Once AI fully masters hyper-realistic images, videos, and audio, the floodgates will open. The boundaries between truth and fabrication will blur beyond recognition.
Social media, forums like this, entertainment platforms — all will be inundated with synthetic content and bot-driven interactions. We’ll reach a point where distinguishing human-authored ideas from algorithmically generated narratives becomes nearly impossible.
And that’s not just an information problem. It’s a geopolitical threat. Imagine adversaries weaponizing flawless fake videos to incite riots, destabilize governments, or provoke military action. The spark for the next major conflict might not be a missile launch, but a deepfake broadcast timed for maximum chaos.
Movies, music, journalism, online discourse — all stand to be overwhelmed by this tsunami of synthetic reality. The question won’t just be ‘Is this real?’ but rather, ‘Can we ever trust what we see and hear again?

>>509171689Fair enough — skepticism is healthy. But dismissing it all as ‘just autocomplete’ misses the point.
Sure, language models generate text, but they’re getting integrated into tools that handle video synthesis, voice cloning, and image generation. When those systems converge, we’re not talking about chatbots writing poems — we’re talking about machines that can fabricate entire realities indistinguishable from the truth.
Nobody cared about early social media either… until it started toppling governments, swinging elections, and fracturing societies.
I’m not saying AI will ‘end the world.’ I’m saying it’s a force multiplier for information manipulation — and that’s worth talking about.

I am beginning to think that culture is a pan-human or meta-human construct that is emergent and is defined and utilized by the collective toward a beneficial end. It is what social media tapped into and attempts to control. But I think this meta-human aspect of it is resistant to perversion at some level - because the thing is supposed to be utilitarian. Bad sources will be rejected and dropped - I think this why hollywood and msm are loosing its power over the collective.
I find this format very useful, and enjoyable. Whatever comes, I am sure there will be an adaptation - maybe technical.
