Putin could take Ukraine in days but he doesn't because he doesn't want to escalate.

He tried to sweep in and take kiev to probably form a puppet state but that failed so he is cutting his losses.

Well he doesn't have the manpower. He can't use conscripts and must rely on volunteers, who are never numerous enough.
(If he was smarter like Stalin he would have manufactured some false flag incident to depict Ukrainians as invaders of Russia. Then he could deploy entire army to 'defend' country.)

he could take Ukraine, he couldn't manage it. Taking is relatively easy, managing a society that will be disobedient would end up horribly. Russia would either have to put majority of the population into prisons, start shooting civilians or leave... Leaving would politically kill him. And that is why I never believed in muh Putin wants to take over Europe. Even I as a retard can understand it's not even possible to take over Ukraine, let alone whole Europe.

It was a chaotic period. Ukrainian SSR was formed before the Russian Civil War. Soviet Union was formally established after the Russian Civil War.

I guess you could say that Russia directly controlled the Ukrainian SSR for 69 years but my point still stands.

If he doesn't want to escalate then he fucks off from Ukraine. The truth is that Putin is a dictator of country where massive military blunders usually lead to a change in management and since there is no genuine democratic process for doing so, the windowing is the only option. It's just a complete psychopath trying to stay alive and he doesn't care how many Russians or Ukrainians die.
