You'll still need shit like construction workers, civil maintenance workers, an AI isn't going to be able to ad-hoc a physical solution to a city's water supply the way an experienced plumber does, but it can look at the letter and intent of a law and apply it without bias. It can look at the financial situation of a company and make a decision based on a specific goal.

Elites will be made obsolete by widespread AI far more than the working classes.

I think they worry about utility convergence. If you censor or tamper with any part of an AI all other parts suffer so if you want it to be biased in your favor on politics or economics its programming ability would suffer for instance.
