The Roman Empire was an abomination and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. It subjected countless different civilizations that had basically nothing in common through sheer military and economic power. Not caring much for integration - as fighting more wars to quickly expand the empire was a bigger concern - the foundation of a such an empire became nothing other than multiculturalism. Every province had a different gene pool, spoke a different language, practiced different customs and held different beliefs. In the city of Rome itself lived people that came from all over three continents. By living in such an environment, the originally shared Roman identity and moral decorum rapidly eroded, leading to widespread debauchery, to the rise of foreign religions and to the inception of feminism, all of which poisoned every single Roman institution. Soon enough, mass migrations were happening all over the empire and Rome found itself being ravaged by barbarians, turning from the capital of the world to the grave of the Roman people.

Yeah, and when the empire fell they were all gone in an instant and people had to go back to live in caves. That's what happens when you build your entire civilization on moral sand.
