This is the way things go usually:

Dunno how it is over there, but in my country the woman usually takes the kids and also half or more of the father's check until all of the kids become adults. So in reality the beta male is alone, stuck having to pay child support and alimony while only being able to see his kids when the mother says it's okay. If she hates him enough, she can keep the kids away from him with lies and she will typically use that time to turn her children against the father.
