Historic grievances can be forgiven and minor theological distinctions (e.g. Filioque) can be waved away as diversity in non-essential doctrines. It's the authority issue that's the problem. Orthodox believe only ecumenical councils are infallible and binding on all Christians, whereas Rome believes the Pope to be equally as authoritative. You'd basically need Orthodox leaders to formally submit themselves and their native churches to the Pope. That won't happen.
Even if Rome promises never to interfere in their worship or administration, they've seen what Francis did to the Latin Mass. They're big on their ancient liturgy, no chance they would even risk dealing with such a situation.
We might continue to see gestures to the effect though, like aligning the Easter dates and such.
