I don't know why but Stop Killing Games doesn't sounds as gamer-friendly as its pretends to be and instead it sounds like another communist movement that demand more government authoritarianism. Besides the fact that this "consumer movement" is shilled so hard from game sites and youtubers is suspicious. Especially when said gaming sites and youtubers also shill for greedy game companies' practises and defend ESG-pandering to video games.

Also the fact that EU also shills for Stop Killing Games is way too suspicious. Same fucking EU that treated Gamergate as a misogynist, racist, terrorist movement. Same fucking EU that use European citizens' tax money to fund ESG-pandering video games. Same fucking EU that bans and censors "problematic" video games.

they don't have to make anything open source. they just have to ship a dedicated server executable with the game. that's how we used to play multiplayer before live service cancer destroyed it, where you can't even host a private server. private servers also had everything unlocked, so you didn't have to grind senseless cosmetics

AMEN! As an old school gamer since the '80s I can say that modern gaming industry deserves another video games crash. I don't even pay for DLCs (I've only paid twice in my life for DLCs: one for a 2 euros DLC for a game I already got for free and a 5 euros DLC for Senran Kagura 2 DLC for a shmup mode that was a whole game at its own.

They blame Russians for piracy but video game piracy boomed because they started charging $60 for broken fucking games. It was endless catch and run game. But as soon as they figured out how to make games as service they started dumbing down games also but these dumb fucking gamers didn't stop being paypigs. Russians won the philosophical game here. It was OK to pirate degenerate time killing, nation destroying games in the first place. Why isn't Russia Communist again? I will join with my whole heart's content. Fuck the chinks they're capitalist country.

I remember vividly, it was in 2003, Frozen Throne just came out and I was reading in a magazine about an upcoming RPG from Blizzard called "World of Warcraft". It said it introduced a new payment model where you have to keep paying monthly to keep playing the game and that was justified by "the game being constantly updated". And I remember thinking at the time " what kind of fucking idiot would pay MONTHLY to access his video game whereas you paid once for RoC+TFT, got your CD keys, which provided a full single player experience and online multiplayer? Surely there aren't any idiots who'd fall for this?"
Apparently quite a few people did. These people made gaming for everyone worse. These people deserve the worst and the games they cherish deserve to perish and die.

Under communism Tetris creators got zero profits from their own creations and instead Russian government claimed all the profits.

Too bad one of the Tetris creators (who created Tetris Company) later went fully Jewish and started doing shit like suing every puzzle game that barely resembles Tetris.

European game industry has been already dead for a long time. Once upon a time European game companies like Rare and Ubisoft used to make and produce great games that were beloved all over the world. Now they make nothing but ESG-pandering trash. And many great European companies of the past were either shut down or absorbed by bigger companies like Psygnosis.

How the hell Ubisoft is still a thing despite bleeding money is beyond me.

I think there has to be some kind of middleground now. We seen it come and go. Game creators claming all the profits just for selling packages is just retarded idea in 2025. They can sell articles like - how they came up with the game in the first place? how big is their dick size if they're really desperate for money. Fucking people will pay money for all the stupid fucks anyways. This idea that you only have to make money from the very game package is obsolete in this digital age.

Also from all serious issues that video games industry has, why should I care more about dead online games? And why should I care about dead online games in the first place? It's like demanding from a restaurant to not shut down just because you want to keep eating there instead of just going to another restaurant.

Here'a a fair compromise. You don't have to keep hosting servers, you don't have to ship a dedicated server exe, and you don't have to provide source code. But if you do not do any of these things then it becomes legal to reverse engineer your code & use/distribtute the products of said reverse engineering freely.

while that sounds great, its factually hard for the developers to make the game server runable on anywhere else but their proprietary framework. Game studios who sign with a globohomocorpo publisher like microsoft or sony use their proprietary cloud infrastructure and the dependency on that cloud infrastructure is deeply engrained everywhere in the server code. This is the case for MMOs and mobas.
What the legislator could do however is force developers to add a LAN mode for small player count games, like battlefield or call of duty. They used to have a LAN mode that you could play without a shittfy.corp account and their game architecture doesnt require massive servers. In fact 99% of the games you find on steam which have a 2-8 player count can be run right now offline with a steam lobby emulator from cs.rin.ru, because they are p2p anyway. The developers just decided to not add a LAN mode, so that the game stops working when they want to sell the next title.
And then you have the absolutely disgusting practice to add online enforcement in single player games, the online service does nothing but enrich your singleplayer experience with ads and microtransactions.
If gamers just followed simple rules, we wouldnt be in this dilema:
1. pirate the game and play it singleplayer or with your friends
2. if the pirated version doesnt work, dont play it, dont buy it. You WILL be ripped off by the publisher. The game you bought WILL stop working.
3. if you liked the pirated experience, buy the game
Unfortunately gamers are paypigs and will keep paying for games that will stop working.

it's not a like a normal piece of software you run on your desktop. modern games are distributed and run on different machines to handle different tasks, untangling the core game from authentication and microtransactions and all the other bullshit isn't easy. lots of this tech is licensed, the game devs didn't make it, so they can't just hand it out to you. this is why the crew couldn't be released. you're also asking them to release a piece of data that can be easily reverse engineered. your games are going to be filled with cheaters and the dev's competitors are going to snake all their cool proprietary code so say goodbye to sequels and a market full of ET clones.

instead of demanding unrealistic solutions, do what's already proven to work. vote with your dollar. ubishit added an offline mode to the crew 2 for this reason.
