Dudes who would yell at you one day for being lazy and terrible, then the next day when you spin up and start grinding but need their signature or support or something they chide you for working too hard.

I don’t know, it seems like a late boomer gen x thing. As if Gen X understood the country was done and sold down the river and it was fake it til you make it so you can live good until the party stops.
Millennials were fucked because we entered this environment but with outdated advice from boomer parents but worse we had a few silent generation mentor types and so we were annihilated in the Gen X managed workplace.
