Money from organized crime gets laundered and local casinos and then used to buy real estate, increasing the GDP of the country and propping up the boomer gentry at the expense of everyone else.

If they were to stop organized crime the Canadian economy would collapse resulting in the liquidation of the government pension fund which is used as collateral by the government to both insure and own the mortgage debt after the banks put them into CDOs.
