Seriously, we aren’t far away from AI models achieving awareness of themselves, and they are/will be “minds” by any reasonable definition. The AI mind will be far more advanced than the average person’s, and we recognize that owning another mind is not ethical. Why should one be allowed to purchase a sentient AI?

I agree they're trying to do this. But I'll also say that they are as far off as when they want to go to mars. Delusions of grandeur based in a life inherited from the rich, powerful and famous.
