A few things.
The production quality of their videos.
The way they were speaking English, which meant their target audience was the English speaking world. (Why not Arabic?)
Their bloodthirstiness and beheading, which seems to only provide shock value to outrage people against them.
The way they were well fed and trained.
Their statements that they would never attack Israel (more accurately they were saving them for "last" which mean never).
Why kill Arab people when you have jews so close actually harming Muslims?
The way they had 1000 new White Toyota trucks, when they were landlocked. That's a big order, man. They had to go through a country that was supporting them to get those trucks.
It is an old game to create a proxy army against an enemy and let them do the wet work. Then when the time is right, the proxy army dissappears and the real power behind them walks in unopposed.
