For those of you who don't know, the japanese government did major reforms to the immigration system years ago, loosening visa requirements for foreign workers.
Despite all of this Japan still has one of the lowest immigration rates in the entire developed world.

The question is will Japan ever be able to fill the worker shortages caused by their aging society?

For quite a while Japan was associated with cheap low quality bulk goods that we now associate with China.
IDK if this has anything to do with immigration but I'm sure someone would like to think so.

It's because they designed the visas like shit. The digital nomad visa? Yeah no thanks. I'd rather just do the border run every three months and not pay the taxes. Everyone else thinks so. And the 1-2 year language school? After the first year you have to endure the most brutal bureaucracy to get simple shit like a driver's license. Oh and getting fired because they're replacing you with a native is not only perfectly legal in Japan but EXTREMELY common. I wish WE could do ANY of that but we can't. And while the Japs do ALL that shit, they'll STILL call WHITE WESTERNERS racist. They all think people should learn Japanese, all so they can refuse to talk to us. Those retards still think Paris is a nice place as if they don't have an internet connection. These idiots will say "We're an ancient culture thousands of years old". Bitch, 2000 years ago the Japanese had no written language. The only evidence of the Jap existence that old are burial goods like Haniwa. In 50 years the Japanese will be all but extinct living in an empty island that they're barely using that the USA is obligated to defend against the Chinese. I fucking hate the Japanese people.
