>"Well-regulated"
Means, "with a lot of restrictions to ensure the safety of the wider body politic." If our Founding Fathers saw the way the 2nd Amendment is used today, they'd all throw a shitfit.

And just so we're clear...
When the Founding Fathers felt that they were under the rule of a tyrant and their rights were became trampled, they did note have a rally in the town square. They did not send a letter, THEY FUCKING KILLED THEM.
The majority of canons used in the War of Indipendence were OWNED BY CIVILIANS.
The founding documents state that the U.S. WAS NOT to have a standing military- there was only to be a federal military DURING WAR. All fighting aged men were expected to not only be armed but to use those weapons in the defense of the nation. From all threats, foreign and DOMESTIC.

They don't even believe a militia should exist so they don't refer to them at all, but our founders said the militia is the whole of the populace being armed, not any particular organization. The term regulated meant standardized as in they all were to have interchangeable ammunition, which was a big problem in the late 1700s since all guns were handmade and came in many calibers. The founders wanted that problem solved by standardizing the kind of ammunition that would be available to the public, mandating that people maintain their own arms in their own homes, maintaining a stockpile of ammunition and gun powder.

But logically shouldnt the whole point of this rule be to be able to overthrow the state, ergo the weapons of the civilians should be equal or close to that of the state, its an idiotic assumption to give civilians muskets but the state M4s, it removes the core of why the rule was setup just because you like a midwit think semantics is an argument

And well trained. Competent.

>mass shooting = 25 dead
>gun control = 262,000,000 dead
Firearm ownership by citizens is to resist government tyranny, which is far more dangerous statistically than random crazy shooter. In the 20th century, governments killed 262 million of their OWN citizens. Not including war. Thatโ€™s like 10 million school shootings. Or 273 school shootings per day, every day, for 100 years.

Yep - in fact since a ruling in the 1930s, a lot of the SCOTUS interpretation has been aligned to this theory, although they are inconsistent. The reason for restrictions on sawed off shotguns and SBRs originally came from this thought process, but SBR are now commonly used by police and military, so not really an effective argument anymore, along with upholding the 1986 Hughes amendment. Selective fire is obviously a standard feature of military small arms, so banning it would be in direct violation of this thinking.
But that's where all the bullshit starts of course. Just look back on Covid-19 if you ever really believe a piece of paper will protect you from tyrants at the end of the day.

But is the 2nd amendment respected in that aspect? There should be mandatory training for every able American citizen, the same way Switzerland does it for example. Not to mention dedicated supply chain and chain of command. The 2nd amendment isn't even about the right for self defense, it's about the obligation for the citizens to be able to fight tyranny on equal grounds when it happens. Is it really the case right now?
