So if your game is online only and you decides to stop your servers, basically robbing people of the paid product, you have to release open sourced dev tools/server build/etc, so people who bought the game had an ability to host their own local servers and you can't copyright strike them for infringing your IP.
You still can shot down these servers if you decide to come back, if I understand correctly.

What is really interesting is it affecting non games products with online components? For example grill with Wi-Fi connection, that need a server connection to cook sosigs? So far I see a fatal flaw with this movement. Not making a distinction between single player and online games. The issue with single player games having a license revoked can easily be solved by, well, not having these licenses revoked in the first place, or providing a workaround to bypass these licenses when the servers are dead (an official crack, so to speak). This shouldn't be hard. On the other hand, strictly online games provides a number of issues because it requires providing a lot more than just a workaround for the single player games. Either providing the binaries for the servers, which would be the most straightforward way, but also certain to give issues in a number of ways (doesn't run on all kinds of machines, only runs on obsolete hardware/software, requires distributed computing that isn't easy to accomplish by the consumer, among other things). Provide the source code, which will likely not compile straight out of the box, because it depends on proprietary third party libraries that cannot be shared, and furthermore it implies making code public that contains trade secrets of the company to remain competitive, among other things. The first step should be dealing with single players, and then in the long term online games. Don't expect a solution in the short term or mid term for existing and previous online games. Ideally, just give up the software needed to run servers to the players themselves atleast when the publisher stops supporting servers to the game themselves if they design them so. This isn't a weird ask to prepare for since all online games worked this way in the past.

During the first month there was a lot of hype and tons of signatures. Then complete silence as everyone stopped promoting. Felt like I was duped into signing the petition. I kept checking regularly but it literally stopped moving.
Then as the deadline approaches they latch onto some fake manufactured drama to reignite the hype. I always expected these lazy motherfuckers to make another push before the deadline, but this drama is so cringe.

This petition could've succeeded months before if they kept promoting it consistently on youtube, with a few sentences every here and there. JFYI a million signatures are not enough, you need a lot of overhead because dumb americans keep signing it, bloating the numbers with invalid signatures. There are also country requirements, with the meds being lazy as usual.
The petition will likely succeed, this was pretty clear from the very beginning. But the promoters are doing their hardest to still fuck it up somehow.
