they are just following along progressivism without thinking much about it. Progressivism says: "we must end the oppression of marginalized communities", and this involves ending racism and xenophobia. Since it is very easy to interpret anti immigration sentiment as both of those things and that racists are nearly universally anti immigration, they have a knee-jerk contrarian reaction, being pro immigration unconditionally even though this is jeopardizes their own safety in the long run.
But I'm not European, I'm not even a firstie. I'm a brownoid from brazil, and as a brownoid from Brazil, I find progressive firsties' endorsement of immigration profoundly weird. The impression I get, and this is most common in US progressives rather than Europeans, is that they support immigration because they want more cheap labor flooding in to do the insalubrious toil the native population doesn't want to do. I dunno man, this rubs me the wrong way. I would much rather that my own country and everyone else's country wasn't a shithole worth leaving, such that very few people emigrate to the firsties, then have an easy entrance in the US, or in Europe, or whatever to be an uber driver and nonetheless earn 5 times more than an engineer could here.
