I’m autistic, queer and chronically ill. I currently live in America and am petrified of being a victim of eugenics. The Trump administration has made it clear they do not want me or any of my other autistic comrades to exist. RFK will soon move forward in finding a way to eradicate autistics. Same thing with queer people. The big bill that was just passed also cuts Medicare, which is crucial to my survival.
Since I’m unable to work a real job or be politically active in the streets due to my autistic and disabled identities my best option would be taking refuge in one of the Scandinavian countries. I’m particularly drawn to Iceland and Finland. All Scandinavian countries have some of the best healthcare in the world. They have the best benefits and aid for disabled and chronically ill people in the world. Very mutual aid-based cultures. And they’re basically autistic utopias since Scandinavians don’t do small talk, are very quiet and reserved, and don’t look people in the eye when they talk. Their languages are also very direct and much less ambiguous. They’re also very solitary people. I know society is what disabled me so if I could move to a Scandinavian country my disabilities would no longer be a problem and I’d be free.
But Scandinavian countries have some the the tightest immigration restrictions in the world. They don’t allow refugees fleeing from wars in so of course they won’t allow autistic comrades fleeing eugenics in. I’m fucking livid about it. Moving to Iceland, Finland or any other Scandinavian country is my only hope and the only hope of millions of other autistics in America. We are literally on the verge of being exterminated and yet we still can’t take refuge in the only countries that can save us.
So is it possible I'll be granted asylum?
