Food has basically no scarcity in the first world and is remarkably cheap when you compare against any other point in human history.
Housing is scarce but its scarcity is completely artificially imposed.
Medical goods are not scarce but medical labor is extremely scarce.

this is why we cant have that nice future yet. we've engineered corn and some other crops to grow more food and feed the world. people in third world nations can get fat now.

The star trek fantasy is based on a reality where people are capable of ultra high trust and people are literally interchangable. Meaning there is no difference between men and women and no consequence for replacing people with millions from a radically different culture. This is not the reality we live in. Technology progresses and your "needs" increase. Maybe it would be possible to eliminate scarcity for bare necessities. But people don't want that. They want cars and iphones ect. Capitalism is necessary to feed the greed of humans. That includes the poors. Arguably the poors are the most greedy.
