I disagree.
The "traditions" of these religions have been questioned since the enlightenment, and it is precicely the departure from these traditions that has lead to the popularity of these ideologies.
It's mainly an identity issue. Once religion stopped being the center of identity, thanks to the advancement of science and the empirical mind, material realities became the center point of identity, race, class, sexuality, etc. Religious identity actually lead to the same kind of infighting until monotheism became the norm, monotheism unifies people in a way that no other identity can. And the individualist nature of Christianity, as in, you were made in the image of God, with a unique purpose, talent, characteristics and abilities, lets people who willingly embrace this collective develop their own selves, as opposed to having to give up their identity in favor of the collective.
