Why hasn't this been done yet? Both videogames and social media ruins youth. They make people stay indoors because it's more comfy than meeting people in real life. Videogames are literally an escape from reality, and no successful people have wasted their time on games while growing up.

If you're adult, fine. Do what you want with your life. But kids should not be ruined by social media and videogames.

Debate.

This is not about politicians raising kids, it's about protecting kids from addictive shit that ruins their lives.

it is about politicians dictating how kids are raised
the point is that they're incompetent to do so or at least no more competent than most parents

>They make people stay indoors
No, you're describing cars. Cars make kids stay indoors because nothing is within walking range and kids can't drive. In the past the mother would take them out, but women work now so kids are stuck in the house until they are old enough to drive.
>it's more comfy than meeting people in real life.
Nope. When I was a kid gaming was the thing that gave me a social life. LAN parties etc were fun as fuck and set the stage for a bunch of non-gaming shit like banter, starting bands etc.
>Videogames are literally an escape from reality, and no successful people have wasted their time on games while growing up.
90% of the kids from my school who went to college and got jobs played games. Almost none of the kids who ended up in prison, on the dole etc did. Gaming is unironically the best predictor of life success for the kids in my school.

And it feels cringe because of the boomer biases. Why wasn't TV considered addictive, despite the fact that almost everyone over the age of 60 spends all day in front of it? Why weren't physical toys addictive despite kids in the past spending all day playing with lego/mechano/etc?

That has nothing to do with cars, though. Has more to do with women in the workforce, neglectic raising her kids.

LAN parties were way different than today's online gaming, though. You met people at LAN parties. Online gaming literally shuts you inside a room.

Truth actually
No fucking underage should even be allowed on the internet, not without a competency test and/or parental permission slip.
Its fruitless and stupid to even try to ever make the internet child-proof or safe.
If you want them on devices that early at all, then they should have their curated own webspace where adults should not be allowed to access without a valid job reason and where ever going without one should already be suspect.

Video games are used as cheap time sinks for parents. You'll never get videogames outlawed for children because thats what they're used for.

The entire point of the videogame industry is to get kids away from their parents so their parents can focus on slaving away for moshe shekleberg and paying taxes.

If you take away video games from parents than they'll have to find some other way of keeping their children out of their lives. Video games are simply the cheapest method of doing that. If you feel the need to force people to find some other way of neglecting their children then you're going to need to pay for it yourself.

The default retort against this would be something along the lines of 'it's up to the parents', but do parents really raise kids anymore? Single income households are near completely dead, you'd basically need to be retired to raise kids, so in any practical sense kids are raised by media and education. Can a bureaucratic system adjust itself fast enough to make corrections on media and video games even if they were proven as addictive? The obvious solution is to return to single income households and let parents actually decide, but even then they still go to school for 8 hours a day and get influenced by their friends who may have terrible parents. The bureaucratic system and market leave the public in a state where their like of responsiveness could screw over an entire generation, an entire generation that never even had a chance to live addicted to porn at a young age and having any potential skillset replaced by proficiency in video games. Those countless hours learning a game could have been spent learning engineering or how to do basic crafts and maintenance, it's similar to how high school athletes rarely end up with a useful skillset, but at the very least they learn how to socialize and work as a team. Most athletes I knew ended up doing well in sales or finance, but they rarely if ever end up as an electrician or plumber.

The entire point of video games is to get children out of their parents lives so the parents can focus on working and paying more taxes. So whatever it is game wise it's not going to be banned specifically for that purpose.

The purpose of video games is to neglect children for the profit of those that would seek to ban them in the first place.
