I went into my storage space in the basement yesterday for the first time in maybe half a year. Fuck my life. It's totally full. Ever since I moved in 17 years ago it's being filling up. It has ruined my life. I felt when I was there fuck this shit I will call a company to haul it all away. Should I do it? There might be a password for a bitcoin wallet somewhere in the junk, which may or may not still have something in it. A 90s computer with who knows what on it. Clothes and bed sheets. Some tools. Books. Cables and chargers from before USB. Maybe some notepads which may or may not contain sensitive or embarrassing info I don't know. A suitcase. Fuck knows what. Fuck this gay fucking Earth I fucking hate stuff.

Keep anything that could have nostalgic value at some point in the future. That's actually difficult to predict though, so err on the side of keeping things.
Keep:
>clothes
>computer
>books
>notepads
When you're old your own past will become an archaeological dig of a person you barely understand and the physical manifestations will assist you in making sense of it all.

Shit advice. It's a lot of work to sift through it, mostly because you can't leave stuff unsorted at the recycling center. Also my apartment is super small, that makes it difficult to deal with, and it's why I put most of the stuff there, there wasn't space in my apartment to live so I had to put it in the basement storage space. Right now I'm living in another block though because they're renovating my apartment, this is a much bigger apartment but I will most likely be moving back soon. I could ask if I could stay here but I don't think I will.

This seems like the best idea. Just haul all of it away. I've had this shit for 17 years. I wish I had done this a long time ago. Also wish I hadn't brought a lot of junk with me when I moved out from my parents, no idea why I thought that was a good idea.

Most of the stuff has been there for many years. I'm thinking if I didn't miss it and could live without it for that long, then it's not going to affect me to have it removed. I have some paranoia about what might happen if people get stuff, maybe there is some info that can be connected to me. I also think there might be a bitcoin password, but that's from when I bought drugs many years ago, so maybe it's better if that goes into the dustbin of history, even though having bitcoin isn't illegal. Most people don't have any bitcoin anyway. But I'm poor so maybe if there is some money it would be good... Also I put some stuff down there recently due to moving to this temporary apartment. I saw that I had put bags of dirty laundry down there. I was wondering where the fuck all my underwear had gone. I was panicking and threw stuff down there when I was going to move, also threw some stuff away, but both of these things I realized later were totally unnecessary.

You also have to think about it economically. Even if there is something to gain from sifting through it and keeping some stuff, economically and otherwise, is it worth the hassle? Time is money. The mental burden and other negatives have to be weighed against the cost of buying new stuff etc. I think overall it's probably sensible to haul it all away even if there are some tools that would be good to keep etc, and then just buy new stuff when I need it. I want to start a new minimalist lifestyle. It's not a day too early, should have done it a long time ago. George Carlin was right about "stuff".

Make a personal rule,

"if I haven't used it in 10 years, throw it away."

> Cables and chargers from before USB.

Throw them away, unless *maybe* you're some computer tech junkie.

> Clothes and bed sheets.

Donate to goodwill, or throw away.

> Books

Donate to a library, school, or throw away.

> notepads

Just destroy if they might have info

> suitcase

Keep the best carry on, checked bag, and personal bag (aka "purse" size) for future travel. Toss the rest.

Anyway I didn't mean to be rude when I said "shit advice". Maybe I should have used other words. I just don't think it's a good idea given that it's totally full, the apartment is tiny, it's a lot of work to sift through it, the recycling center doesn't accept unsorted junk etc.

Well I've been considering doing this. But it's a small storage space that's totally packed with stuff, like overfilled. I don't think you realize how much work it's going to be, how much of a headache it is and will be. I mean if I put my heart into it then maybe I could deal with it but it's probably going to take weeks of continuous work. When I could just call a company and be done with it in a day.

Me too. It just accumulates and is hard to get rid of. If it's shit you haven't touched in years just trash it. Cleaning is very cathartic. You guys invented Swedish death cleaning so I'm sure you'll figure it out.
