Autism in a limited sense is actually really useful and one of the biggest drivers of invention and innovation (spergs obsessing over shit has led to technology breakthroughs all across history).
However at one point, people who couldn't admit their children are just badly behaved, stupid pains in the ass that never get punished started calling their kids "autistic" so they could pretend they're misunderstood geniuses instead of annoying fuckheads and so here we are.

Doctor refers kid to specialist. The mere diagnoses. can get charged in the thousands of dollars.
Then the prescription of therapy support, billed in the hundreds of dollars/hour. Ghost companies. Services never rendered.

An old childhood friend of mine married one of the meanest cunts I've ever met, and herself should probably be on some kind of medication.

Anyway, they had a kid in their 30s, and the little shit is a nightmare on so many levels. Prone to bouts of aggression and anger (can't imagine where she got that from), didn't get toilet trained until she was about 7 or 8, she's a little firebug who lit her bedroom carpet on fire at least once, and continuous behavioral and academic issues at school. She's 12 now, and if she's not asleep, eating, she's on the fucking computer playing Roblox. That's literally all she does.

They claim the autism thing, but they have dogs that are also poorly-behaved little shits, and clearly haven't been trained in the slightest. My friend also has a daughter from a prior relationship who has drinking problems as a teenager, and refuses to speak to him. I'm beginning to think they're just bad parents, and should have just stuck with hanging out and smoking weed on their couch (not like they ever stopped doing that anyway).

I think there's a shitload of people who aren't built to be parents, but insist on doing so anyway because you're "supposed to", creating the next generation of dysfunctional people in the process.
