I've had people try to do this to me. They want me to trade seats with them so they can all sit together. I've only done it one time before because it was a window seat for an aisle seat which I don't care which one I get (company books it as either/or). However, all the other times they have tried this it's a window/aisle seat for a middle seat. I tell them absolutely not. Every single time they get indignant and act like I'm doing something wrong. Tell them to get fucked I'm not trading a better seat for a shittier one because you didn't want to pay for seating.

This is one of the only advantages that Southwest would have as they just have no assigned seats, although that is changing.

I just booked three flights on American Airlines for the year. On the app when you book your flight you pick which seat you want from the available ones. In some cases you can pay extra to upgrade your seat to a better location if you want.

The app litterally tells you what seats are open. So the family with kids probably booked the flight last minutes and couldn’t find seats that were all together. That’s their own fault for not planning ahead.
