Well... I'm middle-class. I gave up my career to homeschool my kids. I have two sons. One is Half Native American, Half White. The other is Blonde-haired, blue-eyed White boy. The Hispanic boy is 14 months older.
I was a farmer.
I'm not leasing my land to another farmer for almost nothing (barely more than the land-tax costs - I make almost nothing on it - like 5-10 grand after taxes).
I rely entirely on my accountant wife and my Hispanic Sons Casino Pitboss Mother to support me while I focus on coaching athletics and giving my sons academic education.
It's working out so far. But I'm probably a little blow "middle class" right now. Probably closer to "poverty" level, being as I live in Appalachia.

My income is second percentile in the USA, so I think most people would probably not count me as middle class. I grew up middle class for sure, although we were fairly well off even if my parents didn't act like it. (Lots of fights about money in the house when I was a kid, I thought we had food insecurity and housing insecurity but as an adult I realize they were just histrionic.) These definitions are never universal and tend to be argued about a lot. I still work for a living because it's fun and I'm younger. One good indicator of being "middle class" is being born to parents with enough savings that you'll probably never be homeless even if you never worked.
