>Since their 27-year-old moved back home in early 2024, the mother, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her daughter's identity, says she and her husband are spending close to $5,000 a month covering all of her daughter's living expenses, including food, transportation and health care.

>Because of the increased expenses, she says they're no longer going on vacation this year, and her husband, a radiologist, may have to delay retirement.

>"We were not planning on this kind of expenditure at this point of our lives," the mother says. "The reason we do it is because we don't want to see her on the street."

>The couple join a growing number of parents who say their finances have been affected by children aged 18 to 35 moving back home. One survey published in May by financial services provider Thrivent found that nearly 40% of U.S. parents say supporting their adult children has impacted their savings goals โ€” the highest percentage since the survey began four years ago.

https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2025/07/03/american-parents-are-sacrificing-financial-security-to-help-adult-children.html

Why are zoomers turning their parents into paypigs?

NEET here living with my old man. I have ran the numbers and in total I probably cost him about $120 a month in utilities. That's it. And since he claimed me as a dependent on his taxes all these years, he said I was a net profit for him after accounting for tax returns.
The real question is how much does food cost a month to sustain? I'm provided food by large passive gain in the stock market. Around $850 a month. I have no car, I don't go out, just grind away on my PC using electricity and the internet (which is a flat fee every month so it's irrelevant how much I use.) With food apps and coupons you can get very cheap meals. I estimate that to acquire about 1500 calories a day you are looking at spending about $5-6 a day. If you cook you can make it even cheaper but then you're literally eating beans and rice. Boring.

Anyways if I can do that while being a worthless NEET, how is this cunt costing her parents so much money every month? $5k? $5k a month? I could live like a king for that much money. Steaks every day, always have the best PC money can buy, literally everything I'd ever want.

Jews don't want people to remember that families used to live together in an multigenerational home passed from parents to children. This is how humans existed for thousands of years, but in then 1950s suddenly kids were supposed to go to the loan jew and buy an unnecessary house for themselves.

Millions of young people moved back home during COVID. The cities and economy are still majorly dogshit. I was making like 75k in an area where 45k is good. Basically 100k as I had some benefits too. Free food and all of that.

The business went under in 2023 after trying to survive COVID. Everything within an hour of my house is literally $15 am hour survive jobs/$25 an hour construction jobs that is riddled full of Mexicans, or a grocery store that still plays covid vaccine messages.

I bought a house with my family in 2020, literally signed the day COVID locksdowns were announced, and that same house has doubled in price and interest rates. I pay 2k a month for my mortgage. It would quite literally be 8k a month for this same property. In just 4 years. Mental.

I'm 100% sure a housing market collapse is coming.

i only spent 300 bucks on random stuff last month, 0 this month- yesterday lunch was free at work, haven't gassed my car in a week. i still feel like it's all too much, i'm neurotic like that, i want to see if work ill let me work a lot of overtime. then i could earn double each month, and spend less. my mom canceled my insurance during covid (lol) and refused to pay my car insurance (even though she pays for my brother, who is an actual parasite druggie). mom goes on lots of vacations after she retired early, is worth millions.

what the fuck is this girl buying to spend 60,000 a year? some people are so spoiled, and some are just fucked. it's crazy.

I live in an extremely expensive part of the East Coast. I pay 2200 for rent, which is my major living expense. I'm looking to move to a cheaper location because my current apartmentis terrible for the price. I can spend $1000 on food/cleaning for myself a month, which is, again, exorbitantly overpriced compared to the general lay of the land in the US. I paid off my last car but then it got stolen, so I had to buy another, more expensive one using the insurance money. That costs me $500 a month or so, because, again, nice car (security features+long term durability). Anything above another $300-500 for misc expenses and $100 or so for utilities is pure luxury spending. My job requires I spend money on my appearance and clothing, but I also make enough that I'm not going to complain about it.
$5000/month living is basically a decadence lifestyle. Eating out every single day. Even I don't do that, and I could probably afford to. I don't because I've only recently come into this very lucrative job, and I've been trying to build up my net worth.

NOPE.
SAME AS THE YOU ARE DESTROYING THE PLANET FOR LITTERING AND NOT RECYCLING RHETORIC
CORPORATIONS ARE TO BLAME
ZOOMER IS NOT EXPLOITING PARENT
BOTH ZOOMER AND PARENTS ARE EXPLOITED BY US POLITICIANS AND OLIGARCHS FOR NOT PROVIDING ATTAINABLE CAREERS WITH LIVABLE WAGES

The parents should be literally paying nothing out of pocket. Give her a place to live but make her buy her own food and transportation.

im about to move out soon, in about a week
i live in california and everything here is just too expensive, so that's why i never moved out. but i decided i'm just going to drive to a cheaper state and find a job and live out of my car until i can get an apartment
just everything in california is so expensive, even in the rural parts of the state

Why 5k per month, food and transport should be easily under 1k, does mandatory health insurance really cost that much?

I could see this being somewhat true if she has a shit ton of credit card & student loan debt (she 90% chance does) and on top of needing to pay for her health insurance. Then a car payment (retards have been getting 700-1000+ a month payments) then insurance on that. It could easily be 5k. They live in Cali Wali which is retard over priced central so I believe it
