This happens in all societies because regardless of how much is produced, what matters to maintain the value of currency is that as much value is produced by the citizens as possible. So all modern governments adjust costs and taxes until all citizens are forced to labor until they die. Furthermore just like the soviet union the leaders routinely waste it and indebt their populace further to cover up their mistakes. The last stage is a population that works to pay debts they never made to a few rich investors through a mechanism so complicated that won't believe it when it is explained to them in a picture book
