Most white Americans trace their ancestry to Northwestern Europeans - mostly Protestant Christians who spoke Germanic languages.
The idea that the US draws its cultural foundation from all of Europe is absurd.

If the country had been founded by Orthodox Slavs, it would've looked completely different.
If it had been founded by Catholic Mediterraneans, it would've looked completely different - just look at South America.

(Spanish - Florida and southwestern U.S.)
(Dutch - Middle colonies/states)
(British - New England states)

And to a smaller extent, the French in the Louisiana purchase territory (mostly Indians), but they were mostly in Canada of course.

That's not true in the places I've lived, but there is a lot of Germans pretty much everywhere outside the Southeast. In Alabama, and Georgia its very much mostly folk from the Brittish Isles and some Fench here and there. Southeast seems to have kept the demographics of early america, but now we have lots of beaners.

The country since the very beginning was British and German. With Germans starting mostly in and around Pennsylvania and moving into the upper Midwest. English were in New England, Virginia, and the Deep South. With Scots moving out to the frontiers, especially across the Appalachians.

The Irish came later to Boston and New York to work as cheap labor in the factories as America became industrialized. Then later a much larger wave of German immigrants after the European Revolutions and the wars leading to German Unification. Then Italians as cheap labor(especially from Sicily). But they stayed in and around New York City/New Jersey.

We didn't start taking in Slavs and others until the late-1800's up until WWI. Then we basically stopped all immigration until 1965.

With that said, people tend to think this country is far more German and Irish than it actually is. From seeing Americans post their ancestry, and from studies I've seen, this country is overwhelmingly English and Scottish(at least among white Americans). Then German, then Irish. Everything else barely registers or is highly regional.
