>>The Prince- Machiavelli
A guy who constantly failed at politics, warfare, and diplomacy lectures you about politics, warfare, and diplomacy.

A better alternative is The Political Testament of Cardinal Richelieu written by probanly one of the top three political masterminds of all time (toss up between him, Count Oxenstirne, and Talleyrand) and written personally to King Louis XIII and thus not the slightest bit of an argument that it's satire or some stupid shit.

>>That Art of War- Sun Tzu
A book written for people who had never seen a sword to only be incompetent instead of horribly incompetent military commanders.

A better alternative is On War which is an expliration both into the purpose and execution of war in actual details that are open enough to be always applicable and not useless platitudes like "soldiers who are untrained are worse than soldiers who are trained."

Of various categories. Generally when it comes to politics I suggest reading contrasting opinions in order to develop a more rounded understanding

>Plato and Xenophon
Early discourse into the ideals of government and its role. Not highly refined as far as the effectiveness of such states but it illustrates the ideas of unconventional governments in the ancient world, the problems with them, and ideas on how they could be perfected

>Paine and Burke or Hobbes
Enlightenment era politics. Burke is pretty retarded and can be replaced with Thomas Hobbes but a lot of the writings of Paine and Burke are direct counterarguments against each other so you can read replied by one to the other. Illustrates the theory behind modern democracy and the historical defenses of authoritarianism in general and monarchism specifically

>Bible, Quran, Talmud
Quran is relatively short but Talmud is a fucking beast to get through. Overall it will allow more effective debate of whatever of the Abrahamic religions you hate if you actually understand their religions. A lot of direct quotes of the Talmud here are misleading for example but the Talmud still illustrates that Jews are an autistic and conniving people who built their entire culture around rigid legalism.

>Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto is literally like 80 pages and can be read in a couple hours so there's no excuse not to read it. It doesn't delve into too much detail but it explains the theory on the natural evolution of society from aristocratic rule to bourgeois rule to (in theory) proletariat rule so it allows you some foundation from which to understand communists.

Machiavelli had years of experience in these subjects. Between his own failed dreams and watching closely the warlords of Italy, France, and Spain, Machiavelli had gained wealth of knowledge to share.

I glanced through the book that attempted to claim that the Prince was satire and it quickly fell flat. From what I read, the writer attempted to use the contradiction of Machiavelli using the King of Spain as an example of a prince to follow and a personal letter of his where he attempts to land a job with one of the Italian warlords.

The King of Spain was one of this particular warlord's enemies, so of course Machiavelli is going to denounce the King's ways and bolster himself as having the remedy to his designs.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War is the greatest military classic of all time. It is tightly condensed and it covers the most important elements of war. It stands at the top.

On War is a flop. I skimmed through it and never touched it again. On War is a product of it's time and only for its time. Sun Tzu deals with the fundamental nature of war for all time.

I disagree with “it’s mostly violence”. The book, the way it’s written, it’s difficult to describe how it made me feel. You should read it and check for yourself.

I wonder how many of you have actually read Discourses on Livy or any of the other books you name drop. And of those that have actually read them, how many understand them? Understand as in the ability to apply the lessons learned in those books to our own movement. It doesn't seem like many, if any at all.
