He was if I recall bothered by the extent the film focused on the individual journeys of each of the children. In the end nobody was supposed to win. We all loose, and not because Mr Wonka is a crazy spiteful megalomaniac, but because the game requires us all to uphold the standards of conduct. The film failed to convey that, in his opinion.
