An empire, by definition, is when one ethnic group rules at least one other ethnic group. The ethnic groups can be of different races or the same race, but they have different cultures.
When different groups of people are in proximity to each other, they mix together sexually because the libido is so strong that people, inevitably, will forget whatever taboos there are against mixing just for the chance to have a twenty second orgasm. Ergo, every time different groups live side by side or together, they mix together. No matter how strong the taboo or law against mixing it, the mixing remains inevitable.
Look at the antebellum South, where white masters mixed with slave women, or at the South under Jim Crow, where race mixing still occurred. The sex drive overpowers any taboo or law.
The only way to maintain ethnic, including racial, homogeneity is to remain isolated geographically and cut off from other groups. Living together means mixing together, and since empires bring together different ethnicities or nations in a single overarching political entity, this means empires necessarily become mixed, ethnically.
The original race of any empire is bound to become mixed and bound to disappear. It happened to the Athenians and Romans, not to mention their Bronze Age forebears in the Near East like the Babylonians and Akkadians. It is happening, now, to the British, French, Americans etc.: the modern European empires.
The wages of sin is death. Imperialism is a crime, a sin, and nature punishes it with the death of the original ethnicity that founded the empire.

Odd that you use Britain as your example, a case study in NOT mixing, and not say, Spain. Britain's colonies were mostly administrative and the ones that were settled (North America, Australasia) were segregated and not mixed.

And yes, all of Europe, even countries without an empire in the past, is getting mixed, but it's all due to the history of empire that defined the great powers of Europe in the past. Britain even favors former colonial peoples for immigration, meaning Indians, Pakistanis etc. have a relatively easier time emigrating to Britain than Americans do.

It has nothing to do with the agenda of the empire. I'd guess most empires are created because conquering brings in resources and cheap labor, which enrich the colonial metropole.
But no matter why a country pursues conquest, when people are brought together they end up mixing together culturally and genetically.
