Large surface vessels are obsolete. The technology already exists where a drone carrier could deliver a hundred drones to within deployment range of an entire carrier group and that hundred drones would be enough to overwhelm the fleet's deserves through sheer volume of targets and inflict massive damage.

Now imagine 20 of these carriers which are just effectively bombers that all drop 100 drones each. No way any surface fleet would be able to shoot them all down.
