Boomer here.... it worked out. Found myself the recipient of three inheritances all in one month last year. I'm retired now and have about 30 times my last salary in IRAs and other funds. I'm also a VA member so my retirement needs are a bit less than most. The house was never going to be paid for until about 5 years from now, but I don't have a problem with letting it ride. The interest on that loan was refinanced at 3.7 percent interest and most investments will earn more than that.
