Objectively.
I'd even give up the Internet to go back to that time, culturally.

Everything was better back then. 56k was fast enough for most needs and by late '98 we had cable internet anyways.

The early 90's were boring and a cool-off from the 80's. The late 90's when Internet became more mainstream it was divine. Early internet is something I yearn for daily. It was good, it was freedom. Just forums upon forums and it was exciting and not filled with faggotry. No rules.

Wikipedia launched in 2001, so if you wanted info on something chances are some guy made a website about his autistic interest and that is where you'd get info from. You would hope it was accurate, but since there was no incentive to lie, it usually was.

It was exactly perfect, and life was good. Life outside of the internet was fine, it was a lot cheaper. Dating was easier too. Very limited online dating was seen as weird and only done for those divorced and middle-aged. All the youth were outside doing things.

It was taken from us, once 9/11 happened the 1900's ended, and life became what it is now.

yes. strangely, across the world too and not just japan/US/etc. Ireland catered to Irish back then for example instead of muslims.

cellphones ruined the world and local human connection people had, as well as the mass access to internet. it was better when it was more barebones and limited in access. we moved too quickly in tech, and the 90's flew by in a blink of an eye. 2008 onwards things started going to shit. and now there's NO RETURN to a simpler time. the worlds problems are constantly flashed in your face.

The internet was a place you went to. It didn't follow you in your pocket.
