>>509652991People waited for PS2 to get DVD support.
The whole CD/32X debacle soured people on Sega, though the CD was good and had 1 excellent game that utilised it (Sonic CD), the rest of the features simply sucked donkey fuck.
And the 32X was too expensive, no good games for it, the fabled Doom sucked, everything just sucked.
Crucially, the Saturn was already out in Japan when the 32X was released. Why the fuck would you but the 32Z when you can wait for a console so much more powerful?
That's where people started to just wait with Sega.
The Saturn wasn't a success, its 2D was superior to the competition but the mid 90s were all.about 3D graphics and the Saturn wasn't as pretty there.
Then there's the major IPs that people wanted to play games from, and didn't make it to Saturn.
PlayStation picked up where Sega dropped the ball.
I agree that the Dreamcast was quite simply too good for its time.
Graphics right out of the latest arcades.
Analog triggers.
Hall-effect joystick, albeit only 1 which is a disappointment.
Built-in modem, a processor to surpass Metal Gear, it was a dream come true.
Then Sega gave Microsoft all the technical expertise and the design philosophy, and quit.
Xbox took over where Sega left off, and now Xbox is dead. Been dead for a while.
The whole thing is just sad.
I didn't have a Dreamcast growing up and didn't feel like I missed out on something big, but it's special to me anyhow.
Everything before it looked old, everything after it looked too new.
It encapsulated the late 90s.
