It depends how you look at it.
For each successful drone hit there are dozen of fails, and such refits may save couple more. So if you were playing a strategy game, it would be definitely worth it.
However if your ass is inside, it won't make much difference for you if you die after 10 or 12 hits.

I don't see why not. It's essentially sacrificial baffles, that take the brunt of the explosion. Wont stop a tank shell, but should work against a small FPV drone charge.

Yes and no.
It's not intended as drone protection and doesn't protect against drones.
The purpose of this is to protect the crew from shrapnel. Both sides attempt to disrupt the other's logistics by shelling roads used for supply. Russia has lost so many vehicles that it is increasingly pressing these unarmoured civilian transports into service. The lack of armour means a lack of shrapnel protection from artillery.
Does this actually stop shrapnel? At enough distance, probably. Shrapnel is pretty easy to protect against, because it's only meant to hurt soft targets. Given the treading on the 'tire armour' it looks like they're just recycling worn out tires from previous supply runs into improvised shrapnel protection.

No, it doesn't. The caging is to mimic the type more competent countries put on tanks to stop rpgs from properly penetrating. That chicken coop wire job of theirs might cause a drones explosive to go off before contacting the actual vehicle. But the explosion will turn the chicken coop into a shrapnel blasting right through that windshield killing everyone up front. The tire armor is incredibly laughable and will shred on an explosion. If anything it will create a more blunt impact, crushing the van inward. Also drones can just go for the tires or fly under the vehicle and explode. I doubt they armored the underside. And once the tires/axles are gone you're sitting inside a coffin as more drones come buzzing along. That entire setup is called cope armor. About as useful as a child pulling up the covers to hide from a monster
